Every Sales Script Should Have A Built-In Confirmation

December 29th, 2008

You’re just so excited!

You called someone out of the blue, made him an offer, and he said yes!

Does it get any better than this? All you want to do is rush off the phone and not jinx your accomplishment.

By all means, run away from that conversation, pronto! That’s what our insecurity, and perhaps our sales manager urges us to do.

But it’s terrible advice. If you bolt, without having performed your own confirmation, you’re about to enter a fool’s paradise.

Sure, you might have a yes, an appointment that will stick, or a sale that won’t cancel.

But how can you know, unless you slowly retrace your steps, and make sure that the buyer knows all of the deal points and is committed to them?

Here’s how I confirmed a recent consulting agreement with the business owner, after cutting the deal with his manager:

“Fine, just so we’re clear, I’ll be starting tomorrow at 9:30, and I’ll be paid X dollars per month, and upon arrival tomorrow, I’ll be getting a check for half that amount, and the other half will be payable on the 15th, right? Great, and is there anything else I can help you with in the meantime? Okay, see you tomorrow morning. Thanks; bye!”

A confirmation covers the essentials of the understanding, whatever it is.

If it’s an appointment, you cover the time and place and if you wish, make sure certain people will be in attendance.

The key is to take charge, confidently.

Of course, by using a confirmation you’ll shake out some weak agreements and uncover some misunderstandings, but it’s better to do it now, rather than later.

Monte Bianco Augments in Volume from 2001 According to Glaciologists

December 28th, 2008

Current precise GPS measurements conducted on the 17-18th Aug have established that Monte Bianco amounts to 4810.7 meters. Mont Blanc is layered by a dense ice-cap which has grown bigger by 2.1 meters in scarcely two years moreover more suprisingly the bulk of the ice and snow has virtually grown twofold . Leastwise that is as reported by the professionals.

The amount of ice and snow was calculated for the maiden time in 2000. It worked out to be 14600 metres cubed above 4800 meters. It comprised just 13700 cubic meters in 2004 perhaps ascribable to the warmth with +ve temperature even at 4900 metres elevation. Yet the ice-cap has nearly increased twofold since then and now equals 21000 meters cubed.

Chamonix Mont Blanc’s illustrious local weather forecaster Martin Ramsdell stated the growth in the bulk of the ice is among the perverse outcomes of global warming: The amount of snow has not grown generally in the Alps merely with the climate change we’re seeing more warm prevailing westerly air currents which bring rain at lower altitudes but in summer this translates to thick snowfall that falls at higher altitude than 3900 metres altitude hence the amount of the ice cap is increasing. Contrast this to the situation in winter when snow crystals are exceedingly cold and are moved by air currents and so do not settle on the top.

Chamonix Mont Blanc France is not just well known for Mont-Blanc it is also a world renowned skiing field and alpinism centre with many ski deals and ski accommodation bargains to be found.

Just Do The Next Thing, Don’t Worry About The End Now©

December 28th, 2008

When we consider all the things we have to do in our sales careers, taking on the “chore” of Prospecting on a regular basis digs up a lot of bad feelings in the minds of most of us.

Probably the first thing most of you think about is the nuisance of having to add another activity to your workload. Plus, of all the things to have to do, Prospecting to most sales people is about as much fun as a root canal, anesthesia or not.

But, Prospecting is the life blood for all of us, so we should do it on a regular basis.

When we teach our BLITZ CALL® System for Prospecting, we cover everything from the words to say to the follow up methods. If you are the least bit reluctant to prospect, our training might give you all of the excuses you need to NOT begin a regular system of Prospecting.

Therefore, we have an idea for those of you who will never participate in one of our workshops or study our Prospecting System, but still need to Prospect. And that is, simply do the next step to get started. Don’t worry about the ending, just begin.

In most cases this requires you to have just two sets of information. The first is a prepared, reliable, rehearsed, and repeatable initial Prospecting statement that you can use every time you make a Prospecting call either in person or on the phone.

Yes, I mean memorized, known well, and able to be presented honestly. You know, like Charlton Heston would do it. Well rehearsed, worded perfectly and a statement that makes sense.

I have been in the field with a lot of veteran sales professionals and their attempts at Prospecting were terrible. Yet when we initially talked about a prepared statement they were emphatically against memorizing. So they prospected extemporaneously. You can almost always expect off the cuff Prospecting to be weak.

That is probably why Charlton Heston makes millions, all of his mistakes are corrected before he gets in front of the “Prospects.” Too often sales people practice on the Prospects, we don’t recommend that.

The cycle is almost always the same. Extemporaneous Prospecting usually isn’t very pleasant, so you don’t feel good Prospecting, which creates negative feelings about Prospecting, so you avoid it whenever possible.

The second thing you need to have is a list of Prospects to call on or a territory to go after. It sure would be sad to prepare and rehearse great wording and then have no where to use it. So find your Prospects and go after them.

When you think about it, all you can ever do in any endeavor is the next thing. It is amazing what you can accomplish slowly and methodically like this.

Relating this to my triathlon adventures, I seem to be doing just the next thing all the time. This is a much larger project than I imagined. Simply learning how to prepare and then participate in these events is a challenge. For example, swimming in a mass is something I had never done before. The first couple of times I swam at the pace of faster swimmers got into oxygen debt and suffered throughout the race. I was worrying about the end not how I would get there.

I didn’t use the wisdom of others. But I really want to do these things, so I will just do the next thing necessary and learn to perform at my own level of development.

You can do the same thing with your Prospecting. Don’t try to perform at anyone else’s pace, do it at your own. But you really have to DO it.

After you have started, you will need to develop a follow up system because you will create a lot of activities, a tracking system, and also determine how many times you should Prospect per week. But that is getting ahead of our premise.

You see starting the Prospecting process is really pretty simple, just do the next thing, don’t worry about the end now.

Sell Well and Often

Learning for free

December 28th, 2008

If you are like me your e-mail was jammed during the “Butterfly Marketing” promotion. I have been following Mike for quite awhile and he is a fantastic marketer. But it does seem to be kind of a stretch for most list owners to have been pushing such an EXPENSIVE product. $997.00 isn’t just a drop in the bucket for most of us.

But, I really appreciate the fact that I got to watch it reach this point. See I first heard about this program almost 8 months ago. It crept into his emails and other sites here and there. He mentioned it in his speaking engagements and even taught it to a select few.

And it started creating a little buzz. Everybody was wondering what this thing could be that he was so pumped on getting just right for the world to see.

So here we are 8 months later and every body that is anybody is pushing “Butterfly Marketing.” I tried a few times on the first day to go to his site. And guess what? He didn’t have enough band width. And I am sure that he was setup at the max his host could give. He created a buying frenzy on a product that he is charging almost $1000.00 for.

He sold over 1000 copies by 5:00 pm and it started at noon. So if we look at that he grossed $997,000.00 in 5 hours. But he had to pay his affiliates their commission and pay for the production of the package. So lets just say that he got to keep 40%. Well, $398,800.00 isn’t bad either for 5 hours worth of sales.

Now that isn’t really fare to say because like I said earlier “Butterfly Marketing” has been in the works for quite awhile. But, when I first heard about it, it wasn’t a product yet it was just a works in progress.

So over the last 8 to 12 months Mike has slowly put together a program and started a buzz on his own time schedule. That’s not to say he didn’t work hard on his program, but he didn’t rush it either.

So if every single package that he sells is from affiliates, (which it’s not.) and he only sold 1000 (Which he has already sold more. Today’s count he has 237 left out of 1500.) then Mike has made a minimum of $33,233.33 per month over the last year and he gets it in one lump sum now. This is on top of what he normally makes. Which I can tell you is a very sizable amount would make most people very happy. But, that doesn’t make any difference. He could be unemployed

So with out spending a fortune we can take home some very valuable information.

Let’s look at what we have learned so far. 1. Don’t quit your day job. Mike continued doing what he always does. Day in and day out he has a routine promoting his other products and making a living the way he makes his living.:-)

2. Take your time and create a product or package that is something that you can be proud of. If it takes you a year and you only make $10,000 per month. That wouldn’t be all bad.

3. CREATE a BUZZZZ. I know that you may not be a big shot like Mike, but he wasn’t always a big shot either. And so what if you have to drive a new Cadillac instead of a Lamborghini. Create a buzz where ever you can forums, blogs and every other way you can think of. Get a basic website up that allows people to opt in for more information.

4. DON’T QUIT!!! Can you imagine putting so much time into something and then quitting? What if Mike had said after 8 months “Forget this. I’ll never get it done.” As ridiculous as that sounds I have done it and I don’t know of a single person out there that hasn’t. This has cost me thousands of dollars. Not to mention over the years probably months and months of wasted time.

So I am not telling you not to buy Butterfly Marketing but perhaps the very biggest and most valuable lesson to be learned here is not from his package but from his actions.

Something that I learned in the military is to lead by example. Well, we have a number of leaders on the Internet that we can learn from just by watching what they do. Don’t pass up this valuable opportunity.

This is a series of 3 articles. In the next article we will take a look at how Mike’s affiliates handled their promotions, and why this is different from any other promotions that have been done online.

Exposing New Hip Hop Music Through Mixtapes

December 26th, 2008

Hip Hop
Mixtapes are an excellent source of exposure for many up and
coming artists.
in some cases they can make the difference
between super-stardom and obscurity. href="http://www.djemir.com/hip-hop-mixtape-vol6.html"
target=_blank rel="nofollow">Good Mixtapes have the ability to shift the
scale towards the artist’s favor.

Most veteran Hip Hop music and Reggae music artists understand
this concept and utilize mixtapes as a valuable tool in their
promotional campaign efforts. They many times use mixtapes to
strengthen the promotion of their own new music albums and
singles.

The mixtapes help promote Hip Hop Artists and their music by
offering an early sampling of new music either in its original
format or sometimes in a special DJ remix format. Often times
the song is mixed into and out of quickly only offering a sample
of the entire song so as to still encourage patrons to get the
full song. In this way Mixtape enthusiasts can get a good taste
of new music without the Artist suffering lost revenue and album
sales. This creates hype for these new songs and albums, almost
like a movie trailer does for movies.

Thus the mixtape format helps boost song and artist recognition
and actually helps boost artist sales and concert sales,
especially in parts of the country that would otherwise be
missed by the limitations of their advertising campaign.

target=_blank rel="nofollow">Mixtapes are also a great promotional tool for
the DJs who make them
, allowing nightclub owners, record
executives and concert promoters to get a quick feel for the
talents, mixing skills, scratching skills, music selection, and
energy that the DJ may bring to an event. In a way mixtapes
serve as part of a portfolio or skills set-resume for the DJ who
distributes the mixtapes.

Recommended Mixtapes:

Any DJ Emir Hip
Hop Mixtape

Physiological Consequences of Carrying Emotional Trauma

December 25th, 2008

Although many of us carry some form of emotional trauma in our bodies, and therefore in our energy fields, do we ever really stop to question the impact that it is having on our overall health? If you are like most individuals you probably just want to forget its even there. The thought of revisiting it probably just makes you feel sick.

The more corageous among you do try to do something about it, perhaps undergo some form of psychotherapy to try to diminsh its impact on your life. I say courageous because in trying to address it one is often confronted by various levels of internal discomfort or fear that do their best to try to derail your best efforts.

Others still try to go on functioning under the cover of some form of anaesthetic i.e. drugs, alcohol, food, sex or some other form of addiction. This is about trying to numb the pain as best as one can.

In the end however, whichever path you choose you are still left with the sad awareness that whatever the trauma was, it happened to you and there is really nothing you can do about it. You will carry that fact within your cells for the rest of your life.

What impact does this have on you and your overall health? Well just for a moment reflect on the fact that the memory of the trauma and the fact that it happened to you remain inside you and notice how it makes you feel.

Even if you’ve had some form of psychotherapy I think there is likely still some sadness connected with the fact that you really can’t change the fact that it happened and that it happened to you!

What does this do to your over all energy level? Well if you notice closely I think you will recognize that the apparently inescapable fact that this event, what ever it is, is part of your life history, only serves to drain your overall energy level.

Now what does this energy represent? Well it represents your “Life Energy”. So what am I saying here? Well I’m saying that by the “fact” that the memory of that trauma is still inside you, it is draining your life energy from your body and another way of saying that is that it is killing you!

Now I’m sure that you’ve likely experienced more than just one traumatic event in your life, perhaps many. So I’m sure you are beginning to see how all of these memories compound the negative effect they have on your life.

Now what if you could change the “fact” that they “happened” to you? I know you’re probabaly thinking “he’s lost his mind” but I ask you to have an open mind just for a moment.

In my work over the last 8 years helping individuals with trauma using a new and powerful tool called the Mind Resonance Process(TM) I have been able to help individuals clear their trauma from their energy fields and therefore from their consciousness and their bodies permanently. They are left with the feeling that such events actually “did not happen” to them.

I do need to qualify here that this is not a process of denying to oneself that the events happened. It is something altogether different and which can only be experienced to be truly appreciated.

These individuals have without exception each re-experienced a resurgence of vital life enrgy into their bodies in a way that they had never experienced before. They were filled with a tremendous sense of relief, an inner sense of joy and peace, a greater feeling of inner strength and resilience which protected them from further trauamtic experiences.

Oh yes, after the release of the trauma none of them felt like the event had ever happened to them.

Three Surefire Ways To Avoid This Spring’s Allergy Attack

December 25th, 2008

Daffodils and Robins are out and about, celebrating the
coming of Spring.

Will you celebrate with them?

Or run for cover!

I can tell you this ~ more than 50 million Americans dread
Spring.

And no wonder. In the U.S., allergies rank as the 6th
leading cause for chronic diseases.

Sneezing and wheezing, runny noses, stuffed up sinuses,
burning, itchy eyes ~thousands of people know these
miseries well.

But they needn’t. Nor need you!

Here’s 3 simple things you can do to make this year
memorably allergy-free.

The First Way: Protect Your Cilia

You simply must take care of your cilia.

What’s that? You’re not sure what cilia are, let alone
whether or not you have any!

Oh yes, my friend, you have many cilia, and they
serve you well as some of your most effective health
guardians.

Cilia are tiny hairs found in the nose designed to
catch and get rid of any intruders. Spring pollens,
viruses, bacteria, all of these are trapped by the hairs
and the sticky mucus which act in concert to deny an
entrance to the body.

Unfortunately, today’s harmful pollutants - cigarette
smoke (either personal or passive), diesel fumes,
emissions by vehicles and power plants and many other
pollutants - put our cilia at great risk.

Cilia moves to a beat. Usually about 8-15 beats a second.
This transports the irritant toward the back of the nose
where it’s automatically swallowed and disposed of in
the stomach.

Pollutants can slow or stop the beat. Cilia’s partner,
mucus, can be dried by too-dry air or not enough water
in the body. These conditions allow the bacteria to
attach themselves to a cell.

And that’s when the problems begin.

Bacteria can’t invade our bodies unless they’re
successful in getting a finger or toe hold onto
one of our cells. The part of the cell that they
latch onto is a specific sugar or sugar complex.

Which brings me to the 2nd way you can avoid this
Spring’s allergy attack:

The Second Way: Wash your nose with xylitol nose wash

Meet the new kid on the block ~ Xylitol, spelled with
an “x” but pronounced with a “z.”

Actually not so new. In the late 1800’s, Emil Fischer,
a German chemist, discovered and manufactured this
healthy 5-carbon sugar. Re-discovered by the Finnish
Sugar Co. Ltd. in Finland during the sugar scarcity due
to World War II, xylitol now continues to receive
more and more attention.

What xylitol nose wash does is:

1. Keep your cilia healthy

2. Bathe your cells in a healthy,

alkaline sugar that bacteria don’t like.

Approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration,
xylitol is also being actively promoted by many dental
associations.

It’s become one of the most popular items in health
food stores simply because of its many health benefits.

Eliminates allergy-causing irritants

in the nose

Prevents the growth of bacteria

Prevents tooth decay

Creates alkaline environment

Possesses a glycemic index of 7

Improves bone density

and more…

Our bodies manufacture a certain amount of xylitol.
It’s also found in fibrous vegies and fruits and trees.
Most of the commercial xylitol comes from either the
bark of birch trees or corn cobs.

A completely natural product with no side effects,
xylitol is being championed for its health-giving
properties.

Your health food store most likely carries xylitol
nose spray. Or you can order some from the comfort
of your home by going to EmeraldForestXylitol.com
You’ll find the folks there dependable and ethical
with more fascinating information on this
health-promoting product.

The Third Way: Drink Your Water

Water. It should top the list of The World’s
Most Wonderful Wonders.

It cleans. It satisfies. It gives life.

Serving time as a political prisoner in an
Iranian prison, Dr. Fereydoon Batmanghelidj
was assigned the task of treating other prisoners
who suffered from a variety of ills.

He had nothing with which to treat them. Except
water.

You can read about some of his miraculous
successes using only water in his book,
Your Body’s Many Cries For Water.

Our cilia needs water in order to do the job it’s been earmarked to do. Most folks walk around
in a semi-dehydrated state which leaves them
vulnerable to many physical and mental disorders.

One good guideline: Drink enough water to make
your urine colorless.

Well, there you have it. Three simple ways
to help your body say NO! to any energy-sappers.

I hope you’ll decide to step into this Spring
with a new spring in your step.

even unexpected change. At http://www.thefeelgoodsite.com

More Free Tips for Beating INSOMNIA

December 24th, 2008

The inability to get to sleep at night is a HUGE problem for many people. If you fall into this category, be assured there IS hope to break out of the cycle.

Insomnia is a silent disease that drains the human resources that allow the body and mind to function normally. Lack of energy, unable to concentrate, grumpiness, prone to catching other ailments - ALL related to not being able to get regular and relaxing sleep.

Doctors are happy to prescribe pills and suggest other ‘possible’ remedies, but they are NOT solving the problem. If the truth be known, they really have no idea how to offer you permanent relief from this affliction, so they follow the basic procedure of offering temporary relief. Repeat business allows them to continue earning the dollars. It’s a sad but true story and you remain a victim of the system.

If they took the time to analyze every patient with a sleeping disorder and coordinated the data collected, they would easily be able to determine that the causes of INSOMNIA, can be directly attributable to stress, no matter what the age of the patient is. Everybody suffers from some form of stress. It’s how the stress is handled that dictates whether or not it affects the person’s sleeping patterns and to what degree.

Controlling stress levels has a positive effect in the battle against Insomnia and a number of other sleeping disorders. Finding a workable solution isn’t rocket science. Below are a few free tips you can try out and you will be amazed at just how well they work.

Breaking the cycle that is preventing you from getting to sleep is what you need to concentrate on. You need to replace the negative stressful thoughts with ones that will assist you in getting to sleep.

All of these are tried and tested by myself and have helped me over the years. They can be used individually or as a group. Some things may not break the negative cycle for you, but others will. Some are also dependant on whether or not you sleep alone.

I still find the most useful method for me, has been the ‘counting of sheep.’ Don’t laugh, it REALLY works, but not in the way you may have tried it. Most people using this method will start at one and count until oblivion. Yes, sleep is achieved, but it is as a result of boredom and therefore not a structured remedy.

To apply this tip properly and achieve quick and regular results, pick a number close to one hundred and count BACKWARDS until you reach one. The reason for doing it this way, is that you have a finishing point and, at that finishing point, you will achieve sleep. Each time you count a number, take a long deep breath. It may not work first time but it WILL work. If you reach one or you forget where you are up to, simply start again at the number close to one hundred. Doing this clears your mind of the other thoughts that are getting in the way of you getting to sleep and gives you a positive focal point for your efforts. It’s simple and VERY effective.

You can also try these to break the cycle.

As you are laying there in bed, waiting for you sleep cycle to kick in, gently start to jiggle your leg or your arm, as if you are keeping beat to your favorite tune. Put your radio on with the volume as low as possible so you can barely hear it. You straining to listen plus the jiggling will create its own sleep cycle and you will find yourself easily drifting off into slumber land. This method isn’t compatible if you have a sleeping partner. You may have to find a single bed to test this out. A small price to pay to be able to sleep, don’t you think?

Naturally, there are other ‘factors’ that affect whether or not you are able to achieve regular and relaxing sleeping patterns. These are outside influences that you don’t have any control over, like noise and annoying light, etc. Ideally, your sleeping environment should be dark, quiet and a place where you can feel safe and relaxed. Once you have ‘mastered’ and are in control of these simple tips, you will find that you will be able to adapt to any environment quite easily because you will KNOW that you are able to sleep when you want to.

It is timely to mention one more tip that took me a long time to discover. This definitely had a negative effect on any method I tried. I discovered that your body has a better chance of relaxing and therefore give you a better chance of getting to sleep if it isn’t too hot. I used to go to bed with socks on because my feet were always cold. Wearing socks to bed is a DEFINITE NO - NO! They tend to overheat your whole body and disturb any sleep patterns you may develop. The use of electric blankets has a similar bad effect. You have a much better chance sleeping when your body is cooler and NOT hotter.

I had stress related problems that affected my ability to sleep and I solved the problem. You can as well!

The tips detailed above, coupled with my simple 5 minute - 9 step technique, have successfully helped me achieve regular and relaxing sleeping patterns for over 27 years. I sincerely hope that sharing these tips with you will help you achieve at least some relief from your problem and establish my credibility with you.

Don’t you think it is time to stop repeatedly paying Doctors for partial solutions when they really don’t know how to help you? Isn’t it a better proposition to follow the successful working techniques of someone who has traveled the road you are now on?

Please visit my website at http://ez4u2sleep.myriad2020.com for the entire solution and feel free to email me any questions or comments, as many others have done. I wish you many pleasant dreams in the future.

John is the Author of an eBook that offers answers and hope to those who find it difficult to get to sleep at night. Visit http://ez4u2sleep.myriad2020.com to continue the story and/or contact author@myriad2020.com.

20 Essential Traits Needed For All Sales Executives

December 24th, 2008

It has long been my conviction that the dominant factor in success is the set of mental habits possessed by the individual. Of no vocation is this truer than that of the salesman. “As a man thinketh . . .” applies to him in an all-important way. The techniques and skills, methods of approach, demonstration and closing are matters of demanding study and practice., These things are cold, mechanical, wooden and ineffective except as they are warmed, energized and implemented by the dynamics of a positive personality. A positive personality is never found apart from deep conviction, genuine belief in the fundamentals, the “copybook virtues” known and honored by men and women of character in all generations.

This conviction was strengthened in me some time ago when there came to hand a report of a questionnaire circulated among the members of a Sales Executives Club. These men and women are “top brass” in the sales departments of big business. They have responsibility for the distribution of their firm’s product; have in some cases hundreds, even thousands, of sales managers and salesmen under their guidance and direction. The recruitment, training and management of these forces are their daily concern.

The question asked these sales executives was: What are the qualities or traits of character you value most in salesmen? This is the list they offered, the traits being stated in the order of importance attached to them by these sales executives. There is food for thought here. Note for instance that “persuasiveness” is toward the end of the list. Most people would list the art of persuasion as perhaps synonymous with salesmanship but according to these sales executives there are other more import traits, they are listed below.

Dependability was chosen as the most important.

Integrity was next. With this trait the salesman is incapable either of being false to the trust his company places in him or to the real interests of his customer.

Knowledge of product is one of the three fundamentals of success in the field of selling.

Self Time-management Perhaps no vocation gives a man a greater degree of latitude. He must be a good “boss” for himself and exact a high degree of self-discipline for selling.

Work organization is efficiency in self-management. Much of a salesman’s time is wasted by the prospect. He must guard the balance jealously and make every minute count.

Sincerity excludes falsification of every shade. It must be real, few can “pretend” with success.

Initiative is the salesman’s spark plug.

Industriousness is devotion to the job, never being unemployed during work hours

Acceptance of responsibility for the car, for the sales material, records, samples and above all for the company’s good name and the customer’s good will.

Understanding of buyer motives this being another of the big three fundamentals of selling.

Sales ethics No longer is the slogan “caveat emptor” (let the buyer beware) but “caveat vendator” (let the seller beware).

Judgment is not inherited. It can be developed as a habit. Logic is a subject that should be a “must” for sales people.

Care of health, mental, physical, spiritual, financial.

Courtesy is more than politeness. It is consideration for others, deference to their opinions, their rank, their sex, their age.

Determination is a dogged adherence to a carefully worked out and settled program and purpose. The will to carry through. Unwillingness to compromise with anything less than your best performance.

Aggressiveness requires self-confidence and the language of assurance in all interviews. It is pressure applied without offensiveness.

Friendliness involves warmth of feeling, a positive type of cordiality that does not involve back-slapping or wise-cracking.

Resourcefulness Wide knowledge, curiosity, retentive memory, wide-awakeness. Quick thinking in the clinches.

Persuasiveness goes beyond the realm of reasoning, an appeal to feelings, desires, and emotions.

Appreciation of selling as a profession and as the road to personal success. Awareness of the fact that the field of “distribution” offers more in money, satisfaction, opportunity for service, and personal growth in all of the inner virtues and faculties than any other calling, especially more than anything in the field of “production.”

Thursday Rock

December 23rd, 2008

Thursday, a post-hardcore band, is from New Brunswick, New Jersey. The band formed in 1997. Their first full-length album was released in 1999 with a New Jersey based company called indie Eyeball Records. Thursday is known for their notable advancements of artistic nature; many of the bands songs are as a result of books, real world events, and art of various forms. Successfully emerging from the underground indie scene, Thursday at the turn of the century attracted Victory Records attentios.

The band gained significant commercial radio airtime when they released their second album which became a breakthrough. Their hit single “Understanding In A Car Crash”, landed the band a major label record deal with Island. Their hopes were in continuing to create music and an image that truely represented themselves. This hope resulted in a magnificent artistic piece in which the band perfected their sound. The entire collection of Thursday albums were produced by Sal Villanueva and mixed by Rumble Fish.

Thursday Band members are: Geoff Rickley (vocals), Tom Keeley (guitar), Steve Pedulla (guitar), Tim Payne (bass), Tucker Rule (drums) and last but not least Andrew Everding (keyboard).

The sound of Thursday is built upon both post-punk atmospherics and hardcore’s visceral instrumentation. Repeated high-pitch guitar riffs stacked on top of heavy bass lines echo Thursday’s British influences such as The Cure, The Smiths, and Joy Division as well as New York City’s Sonic Youth. There is the odd time signatures, tempo and key changes, and multi-sectional song structures also play a prominent role, akin to progressive rock bands such as Yes and Rush. Lyrically, Thursday is a masterpiece with lead vocalist Geoff Rickly. Geoff concentrates on the struggles of growing up in the world today using violent imagery along side shimmering, and often beautiful phrases.
