Thwarting the Rise of Counterfeit Golf Equipment

Golf equipment manufacturers in the United States are threatened by the growing industry of counterfeit golf equipment.

To put a stop to this thriving crime, leading golf equipment manufacturing companies in the United States formed the U.S. Golf Manufacturers Anti-Counterfeiting Working Group.

The coalition’s members include Nike Golf; Callaway Golf, the maker of Ben Hogan, Top-Flite, and Odyssey; Acushnet Company, the maker of Titleist, Cobra Golf, and FootJoy; PING; Cleveland Golf, manufacturer of Never Compromise; and Taylor Made, the maker of Adidas Golf.

Efforts continuously undertaken by the group include campaigns aimed at consumers encouraging them to purchase products from authorized dealers, as well as petitions to governments that their countries should actively impose their laws against golf equipment counterfeiters.

Their endeavors proved to be effective since the Chinese government in particular has already conducted several raids and arrests against these counterfeiters for some years now.

Combating counterfeit golf equipment products is imperative in order to protect the business and reputation of these U.S. manufacturers. It is unfair for these respectable brands since whenever consumers buy counterfeit golf products that turn out to be defective or substandard, they would put the blame on the original manufacturers. Obviously, dissatisfied customers are not likely to buy the same brand ever again.

Aside from protecting the profitability and reputation of these companies, counterfeiting should be stopped in order to protect consumers from having to purchase products that are very poorly made and from potential hazards that the products may bring.
